Difference of kind, not degree.
There is an article at the Washington Post about WWII interrogators.
It is getting a high level of exposure because the interrogators are, in some cases, disgusted by the fact that torture is being used in the War on Terror. But, it also contains this gem:
Nearly 4,000 prisoners of war, most of them German scientists and submariners, were brought in for questioning for days, even weeks, before their presence was reported to the Red Cross, a process that did not comply with the Geneva Conventions.
Now, I’m the first to admit that torture and questioning before reporting to the Red Cross are not comparable. But, it is interesting to note that little fact, which isn’t getting the exposure.
