This is just amazing.  A man with an 8th grade education is producing 30-mpg Hummer H2s.

His next creation:

He aims . . . to turn the Hummer into a tricked-out electric hybrid. Like most hybrids, it’ll have two engines, including an electric motor. . . “Conservatively,” Goodwin muses, scratching his chin, “it’ll get 60 miles to the gallon. With 2,000 foot-pounds of torque. You’ll be able to smoke the tires. And it’s going to be superefficient.”

I read that, and I swoon for America.  Mostly because it is amazing, think what could be done in a normal car, or a sports car.  But also, because this is the quintessential American inventor.

It is the best elements of Woz and Edison, tinkering in garages and inventing the future.  The crying shame is that it doesn’t happen near enough.
